On February 15, 2017 Human Rights House Tbilisi (HRHT) hosted the Delegation of Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs headed by State Secretary Marit Berger Røsland.
After welcoming the delegates, Ms. Natia Tavberidze – HRHT Coordinator, presented the concept and activities of HRHT, which provides the beneficiaries unique opportunity to receive several services in one space, offered by 6 member organisations located at HRHT office. Furthermore, the representatives of HRHT member organisations, Ms. Tamar Avaliani, Deputy Executive Director at Human Rights Center, Mr. Nika Legashvili, Executive Director at Article 42 of the Constitution and Ms. Baia Pataraia, Director of the Union Sapari presented general trends towards Human Rights situation in Georgia. Particularly, the attendants discussed the state of minorities, hate crime situation, gender equality and women’s empowerment, the level of independence of the Georgian judiciary system, situation of Human rights defenders and activists from Azerbaijan living in Georgia.
Moreover, it was underlined the work of HRHT as a member and the regional focal point of the Human Rights Houses in the South Caucasus, as well as well-established practice of cooperation with Human rights organisations throughout the Human Rights House Network (HRHN). HE Ambassador of Norway to Georgia and Azerbaijan – Mr. Bård Ivar Svendsen positively assessed this role of the HRHT in South Caucasus region.
HRHT representatives expressed their gratitude to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway for financial assistance, as well as to Human Rights House Foundation, for active cooperation and support, which enabled today’s effective functioning of HRHT.
