On October 2, 2019, Tamar Mearakishvili’s trial was held.

The lawyer is defending Tamar Mearakishvili’s rights with the support of Human Rights House Tbilisi and the financial support of donors – Human Rights House Foundation and Urgent Action Fund.

The court hearing on the re-launched criminal case of a journalist and activist from Akhalgori lasted four hours.

The so-called Prosecutor’s office presented four witnesses, who said that de-facto government officials had them sign documents related to Tamar Mearakishvili’s case. However, they did not understand the content of the document, because they did not speak Russian.

The prosecution failed to provide any other objective evidence in the case.

The so-called South Ossetian Court will announce its verdict on Tamar Mearakishvili’s case on October 16.
