Human Rights House Tbilisi invites women human rights defenders to participate in the National Leadership Academy

About the project

IREX Europe, a French-based NGO and Human Rights House Tbilisi are implementing a project aimed at promoting and strengthening the leadership skills of young women human rights defenders. This 26-month project covers 5 countries of Eurasia with the support of the European Commission.



About the Leadership Academy 

The Leadership Academy planned in Georgia will focus on following topics: Gender equality, equality within workplace, advocacy, creative campaign planning, and media campaign planning. The academy will take place between 20-30 September (3 days) 2018 in Tbilisi, Georgia. 

Based on their motivation, proactivity and commitment, a few participants of the Leadership Academy in Georgia will be selected to attend the Regional Leadership Academy which will be organized in Chisinau, Moldova. The Regional Leadership Academy will be a great opportunity for young women human rights defenders from 5 Eurasian countries to share their ideas and best practices with their peers. 

Moreover, following the National Leadership Academy, small grants will be available to support the implementation of the best strategies, projects and campaigns developed by the participants in the Leadership Academy in Georgia.



Who can participate? 

Women holding Georgian citizenship, aged between 18-30 years who: 

** Are fighting for human rights, particularly for women`s rights. 
** Have the potential to become a leader or strongly advocate for human rights/women`s rights. 

LGBTIQ+ women, representatives from ethnic minorities and IDPs are encouraged to apply.

About the organization: 

Human Rights House Tbilisi (HRHT) is a membership based organization, which unites five Georgian civil society organizations, working in different fields of Human Rights. Based in Tbilisi, it was registered in July, 2010 as a non-governmental organization with the support of Human Rights House Foundation. HRHT became a member of the Human Rights House Network the same year. The Human Rights House Network unites human rights defenders working for different independent organizations in 14 Human Rights Houses in 12 countries. The member organizations of HRHT are: the Human Rights Center (HRIDC), Article 42 of the ConstitutionGeorgian Center for Psychosocial and Medical Rehabilitation of Torture Victims (GCRT), Sapariand Media Institute. In accordance to the concept of Human Rights House, in order to enhance co-operation and joint activities, to advocate for better protection of human rights, all member organizations of HRHT share physical space and work on the following directions: providing legal and psychological service, improvement of legislation, advocacy, human rights education and protection of human rights defenders, activist and journalists at risk
